History

History

"Sathguru Sree Jeganathar Swami, originally from Puri, India was born in January 1814. At the age of 18, Swami left Puri and went to Chittagong, Bangladesh. In the late 60s, Swami reached Malaya and first lived in Baling, Kedah . From Baling Swami went to Taiping, Seremban, Teluk Anson, and finally reached Tapah in the early 1920s. Swami had stayed with Mr. Sundararajoo and his family in Tapah. Swami had explained to Mr. Sundararajoo's mother that Tapah was a very suitable place for Swami to live with spiritual works. Sundarajoo's mother agreed and built a small hut for Swami facing the Chinese cemetery. After a few years, Swami bought 3/4 acre of land and started doing spiritual activities. Swami has been doing 'aanmigam' work secretly. This is because, Swami has the potential to change as an animal, especially as a snake. Swami also has the ability to hear the voice of a person's heart that others cannot hear. In the year, 1958, Swami wanted to attain 'JeevaSamadhi' and had started to build a place for 'JeevaSamadhi' underground the present temple. On January 25, 1959, which coincided with Thaipusam Day, Swami Jeganathar attained 'jeevaSamadhi". Swami Satyananda of Purelife Society was entrusted to lead the JeevaSamadhi ceremony. Swami also mentioned that a pipe is planted from within the samadhi and protruded out of the ground at Moollastanem. Later, Letchumanan Chettiyar became the patron of this temple and subsequently it was kept under the care of Malaysian Hindu Sangam in 1933. On, 01-12-2019 Kumbhabishagam was conducted for the first time for Sathuguru Sri Jeganathar Swaami Aathma Nilayam

Significance

This temple is a place for meditation and is believed that all of the devotees' intentions will be heard by Swami and granted. The temple is always in a state of calm to allow devotees to undergo meditation. A Shivalingam has been placed above the swami's 'JeevaSamadhi', and prayer rituals are conducted daily. Swami also mentioned that a pipe is planted from within the samadhi and protruded out of the ground at Moolastanem and devotees can hear his breath. MahaShivaratri is held in this temple every year.
