History

This temple was built in 1920. At that time there were only 9 Indian families in the Kerling area. One day during a heavy rain, Mr. Kuppusamy Nayakar placed a "Vel" under the papal tree because the fire from the oil lamp that was lit did not extinguish although it was raining heavily. The residents believed that there was divine power in that place. At that time, all 9 families who built this temple had experienced some positive changes and when this area developed, the temple committee succeeded in acquiring land to build a new temple located beside the Kerling road. This temple has a large number of Hindus devotees because the temple is located beside the road. In 1978, an event occurred where a group of people entered the temple area and broke the statue of the main deity. The day before this incident, the temple archagar dreamt of Lord Murugan who had told him that someone would come to break the statue of the god. Archagar informed the temple authority but the event had already happened and was inevitable. This temple is also known as Thiruchentur Murugan temple.
