History

History

"Tangkak Sri Subramaniyam Temple was established on 17.08.1958 by Srilasri Pajamalai Swami from Tamil Nadu with the blessing of the local people (around less than 120 people). Although the temple was built in 1991, the flagpoles made from bamboo and other equipment used in the earlier days are still on display until today. The three tiered beautiful Rajagopuram and the big hall was built in 1968. It was officiated by Yang Berhormat Tan Sri E. Manikavasagam, Minister of Labor at the time. Initially, the temple land belonged to Mr. SP Chidambaram, an accountant at the Chettiar Estate. At first, he promised to give free space to the temple but he later decided to return to Tamil Nadu with his family. He was willing to sell the land for a large amount of money. As such, a group of locals started the fun raising, they collected funds from 35 labourers working under Uttaradam Foreman and from the public.  Mr Premji Laxman, Mr M.V. Muthusamy Sarvai, Mr Sarayakadai P. Ramasamy Pillai , Mr Uthiradam Mandor, Mr V.Kshi.Kshi Theyar, Mr S.R.(owner of the Maniam Flour Factory) were amongst the first few people who had contributed towards building the temple. The first few people to plant the foundation stone and carry out the flower pooja were Satsad Periyavar along with Sri Sri Pajamalai and Mr. Uthiradam Mandor. "

Significance

The temple has a beautiful Rajagopuram and many residents believe that a Rajagopuram is a sign of a very powerful deity.
