History

History

"In 1978 the owner of a rubber plantation (Victoria Estate) named Benedic Nair planted a new tree and it was found that there was Silica stone which at that time had a high price. Benedic Nair made a decision to make a Quarry. During the blasting work, the material the explosion did not explode. After such incidents repeated, Victoria Estate workers called Tok Sami from the nearby area to see what the problem was. Tok Sami performed a prayer ceremony in the quarry area and danced like a Serpent Deva and walked like a Serpent on the brick floor towards the Kovil area which happens to be where Sapthakanniga Devi lives. Sapthakanniga Devi is the seven unmarried sisters of Deva Maha Mariamman. Nagamma did not allow the hill area where Sapthakanniga Devi lived to be turned into a quarry. When asked how to pray by the quarry worker, Nagaamma in Tok Samy's body told that he would enter the dream of one of the quarry workers, the late Ramachandran. While sleeping, 7 women came with trays of Kodam dressed as Devi and told how to pray and make the appearance of Stobi. The quarry workers built Arulmighu Maha Sapthakanniga Devi Kovil as well as placed 7 stobis named Maha Brami, Maha Mageswari, Maha Kaumare, Maha Vaishnavi, Maha Varaghe, Maha Mahenderi and Maha Samundesware. The Victoria Estate still continued the quarry work resulting in huge losses until the land was auctioned by the bank. "

Significance

Devotees get what they intended by tying lemons with yellow cloth and asking Sapthakanniga Devi to help solve their problems. Devotees do not need to go to India to perform Kulathaivam Poojai. This is the only Sapthakaniga Devi temple in Malaysia and Devi Sapthakanni's presence can be felt during temple festivals.
