History

History

This temple was first established in 1907, next to a river on the Masai Old Road to Masai town. The sulam, an emblem was placed under a tree and it became the symbol of the God Muniswarar. The founder of the temple was Mr. Toppai Gauder along with several other individuals at that time. In 1960, the temple was renovated, and a special prayer ceremony began to be celebrated on 31 August every year. It has become popular among the public who live around the area. On October 22, 1986, the temple was first rebuilt using stone. The Kumbashigem for this temple was held in 1992. Mr. Pachacheram was the first Chairman of the temple in 1993.

Significance

In 1905, workers from the Public Works Department (PWD) sector in the surrounding area of the temple had established a Sulam as a symbol of trust to care for their belongings. The workers of PWD believed in the power of Sulam as a sign of the God Muniswarar was able to keep their belongings safe and no one would dare to steal the goods. Incidentally, after placing the Sulam, there were no cases of theft against the goods of JKR employees. Thus, the trust of the PWD workers and the surrounding public towards Sulam began to increase.
